Urban Decay Naked Skin Beauty Balm Broad Spectrum SPF 20

I am not a big fan of BB creams. The majority of them have simply been glorified tinted moisturizers. Sometimes certain cosmetics companies didn’t event put forth the effort to come up with a new formula. They would simply repackage whatever tinted moisturizer they had already been selling and label it “BB Cream”.  However, being that Urban Decay is my favorite brand for makeup, I couldn’t resist giving it a try.

Every BB cream makes outrageous claims. Urban Decay Naked Skin Beauty Balm Broad Spectrum SPF 20 claims to hydrate, prime, protect, perfect and treat.

Although this oil free beauty balm does hydrate, it leaves my normal skin type feeling quite dry. I find it better if I use this in conjunction with a moisturizer. Urban Decay is also aware that there is a distinct difference in “hydration” and “moisture”. They even say on box that houses their beauty balm, “For extra hydration, apply after your moisturizer”.

As for the priming aspect of this beauty balm after testing this out for a week, this wears beautifully under my drugstore and high end foundations. It gives my complexion a slightly brightening effect without use of shimmer or glitter. I’ve noticed that it aids in prolonging the wear of different foundations as well.

Urban Decay Naked Skin Beauty Balm Broad Spectrum SPF 20 uses a blend of a chemical block (octinoxate 7.5%) as well as physical block (zinc oxide 3.4%) to prevent UV damage.

If you are looking for coverage from this bb cream, you will want to look elsewhere. This applies translucent with a very slight tint to it. However, I am truly wowed at how this instantly reduces the appearance of redness and pore size in my complexion. I love that the liquidy texture of the balm instantly mattifies my skin without leaving it dry, powdery or crepey-looking. This has managed to control oil in my T-zone all day!

Other claims of this product are of the anti-aging kind. Urban Decay promises that over time regular use the Naked Skin Beauty Balm will lead the skin to become firmer and improve elasticity. Well, only time will tell.

Although this this beauty balm comes in one shades that is billed as a “universal” shade, it will most likely not be suitable for extremely fair or deep skin tones. Urban Decay also left themselves an out by saying on the box, “works on most skin tones”. As I mentioned before, the balm does have a slight brightening effect. This may be do to the white pigment that naturally exists in zinc oxide.

Urban Decay Naked Skin Beauty Balm Broad Spectrum SPF 20 disappears effortlessly into my skin.

The first time I squeezed out a pea-sized amount of this good stuff, I was surprised by the scent. Although, the scent is not overpowering it’s a strange blend of peppermint and sunscreen that fades once you apply it to your face.

All in all this is the first beauty balm that I felt I absolutely had to own. This is something that I will replenish once the tube squeezes out it’s last dose of skin care cosmetics goodness. Urban Decay Naked Skin Beauty Balm Broad Spectrum SPF 20 retails for $34 and is available at UrbanDecay.com, Ulta and Sephora.

Have you tried this? What was your experience? I would love to hear from you! Please comment and subscribe.

Until later,
