La Roche-Posay Cleanser, Acne Treatment, and Sunscreen Samples
This week I had the pleasure of receiving some skin care samples from La Roche-Posay. I received a cleanser, acne treatment and sunscreen. They’re tiny samples, but they were big enough for me to try. I switched these three products with my currently skin care regimen for two days morning and night. Well, I didn’t use the sunscreen at night… you know what I mean.
I really liked the La Roche-Posay Purifying Foaming Gel for Oily Sensitive Skin. Although I wouldn’t classify my skin as oily and sensitive, I do experience bouts of oiliness one week out of every month due to…um… hormones *wink*. Since I happen to be experiencing … um… hormones this week, these samples came at a good time. I used this cleanser two mornings and evenings in a row. The texture of the clear gel is very lightweight and foams easily. It had only a very light clean smell. So those of you who are sensitive to fragrance in their skincare would probably like this one. When I was my face, I tend to massage the product into my skin for at least a good minute. After I rinsed this foamy cleanser off, my skin felt super clean and even a little moisturized. I can see myself possibly buying this one to use during my hormonal week or even on just a regular basis. Thumbs up!
After I used a towel to pat my face dry, I followed with the La Roche-Posay Dual Action Acne Treatment. This formulation contains 5.5% benzoyl peroxide. Honestly, I haven’t put benzoyl peroxide on my face in years! Since I’m dealing with some hormonal breakouts right now, I figured my skin would respond positively and swiftly to this zit zapping ingredient since I no longer have a built-up tolerance to it. I was happily proven correct. When I woke up the next day, red bumps that were eager to turn into white heads had calmed down a little and the amount of oil on my skin had noticeable reduced.
After washing my face and applying the acne treatment, I followed with the La Roche-Posay Ultra Light Sunscreen Fluid with SPF 60. I love sunscreen and use it everyday. I usually like to use something with at least a strength of SPF 30. If I consistently use a sunscreen weaker than that, I tend to tan. It’s frustrating to have to buy a new foundation every week because my complexion has darkened… again! When it says “ultra light” on the package, they are not kidding! When I squeezed out the sunscreen, it was so light, thin and runny that it almost ran off my finger! After I applied it to my skin, I couldn’t feel it. Ultra light! I also didn’t have a white mask on my medium/tan complexion. Bonus!
By the end of the two days, I decided to follow this routine one more time this morning. After going to work and then spending some time in the sun, I noticed that had some dry skin patches on my chin and along my jawline. Since I hadn’t used benzoyl peroxide in a number of years, I should have started by using it only once a day instead of two. My skin was very receptive to the acne treatment but it was also a bit sensitive.
Although I love the texture, feel, wear, and look of the La Roche-Posay Ultra Light Sunscreen Fluid (SPF 60!), it is not moisturizing. That was predictable since it is after all a sunscreen and not a moisturizer. I will continue to use it; but I will also use a good moisturizer underneath it.
All in all my introduction to La Roche-Posay was a positive one and it is something that I will use again. I was given these samples for consideration but was not compensated for this review. This blog post documents my honest experience and opinions.

Murad Clarifying Wipes
I am a magnet for blemishes on my chest and shoulders. Murad Clarifying Wipes are the answer to my skin care prayers! Dr. Murad has always formulated his acne-fighting products with gentle yet effective ingredients. Your skin will not look red, feel irritated or dried out. Instead these wipes will reduce shine, minimize pores, reduce oil and kill bacteria.
Although this is ideally used on the face, this is great for people who are blemish-prone on other areas of their body. Are you the type who breaks out on their shoulders from sweating it out at the gym? Murad Clarifying Wipes are super convenient! You can keep them in your (gym) bag and take them everywhere with you.
I love the ingredients:
- Witch hazel minimized pores and controls oil
- Algae extract slows down excess sebum production
- Antioxidant grape seed extract and vitamin E protect against free radicals
- Cucumber extract to sooth the skin
- Lemon extract to brighten the complexion
This combination of ingredients removes dirt and oil, kills bacteria leaving your skin toned and balanced. The seal on this package is excellent. There are 30 sheets in each packet of Murad Clarifying Wipes. After 30 days the pre-moistened sheets stayed just as moist as when I first opened them. No sign of drying up. The price is not bad either – $18 for a 30-day supply (or 15-day supply if you use it morning and night). If you are using these as part of your skin care routine, I recommend washing your face first with your usual cleanser. Follow with one of the clarifying wipes (avoid eye area). Do NOT rinse! Follow with serums, treatments and moisturizer as per your usual routine.
Although Murad is a cosmeceutical line, they formulate their products without harsh, irritating ingredients such as:
- synthetic fragrances
